mimosa look alike with fruit/nut - Knowledgebase Question

my mom has a tree growing on her property, with mimosa-like leaves, but no flowers.just baseball-sized green fruit/nuts with a strong, somewhat citrusy smell. my mom lives in zone 6, near the atlantic ocean.

It might be a black walnut tree, Juglans nigra. (The hard nuts are inside the green fruit.) Here is a photo and some information about it. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.
