Emma,

That depends on the property and the flowerbeds. Some flowerbeds can be an eyesore, but many studies have shown that landscaping in general helps a property to sell by making it more appealing to perspective buyers. When planting flowers or landscaping in general keep it simple and fairly standard. Avoid getting to exotic or mixing lots of different things at that get too "busy" and may make it unattractive to most buyers. When doing some landscaping prior to putting your home on the market put in lots of color (annual flowers) and use just a few colors in large swaths for the best effect. That way you get the most benefit to resale value for a little investment.
