| I purchased a plant at my local Home Depot for $9.95. It had yellow flowers that are almost shaped like the bell type flowers on a honeysuckel or trumpet plant. It was only marked tropical plant and was the last one and didn't have the care tag. The store computer also didn't show the name of the plant. It is about 3 feet tall, with lots of small trunk type (with bark) branches. It is very bushy and I don't know if it's a tree or shrub, if it should stay indoors year-round, or what it's called. CAN your help me? |
| Based on your description this might be a Mandevilla splendens or Allamanda. This tropical plant must come indoors in the fall before temperatures fall below 45 degrees or it will be damaged by the cold. It likes full sun all summer outdoors, and a very bright window sill in the winter. Keep the soil evenly moist (not sopping wet, just damp) in the summer and fertilize regularly with a water soluble fertilizer such as 10-10-10 plus minors during the growing season. In winter while it is indoors cut back a bit on the water and stop feeding it while it rests. If it needs to be pruned to control its size, cut it back in late winter. Enjoy! |
