The Q&A Archives: Yellow Onion Tops

Question: Why are my onion tops turning yellow?

Answer: That's a good question. The answer depends - if these onions grew in your garden all year, then they need to be harvested. If you just planted the onion sets, then they're behaving badly. My guess is that the onions are from last season and need to be harvested. Pull them out, let them dry for several hours in the sun, or for a couple of days under cover if the weather's bad. Then cut the tops off and store them in a cool place with good air circulation.
