We just moved into a brand new house (late July) and I would really like to still do some pots for a backyard party we are having in a few weeks. Is it too late to plant annuals in pots? What kind of plants might still be available?

Since there are both warm season and cool season flowering annuals, it's really never too late to plant annuals. What you'll probably find in your garden center now are pansies, ornamental kale, chrysanthemums, primroses, and snapdragons. Best wishes with your container garden!
