I'm a landscape designer, working on a garden in Santa Maria 93455. I need a small tree or tall shrub for a narrow strip 15'x3'. Will plant 3(?)of whatever might work there. Growth can be up to 15', sun to part shade. Needs to be little to no litter (in a paved area), evergreen, little to no pruning, tall and skinny. The garden is a 'country' feel...I'm adding Azaleas, Cotinus, Coleonema, Nandina,Juniper probcumbens, and there's and existing Ash, Pine, and Oak. Thanks for your suggestion....Stacie Dilg

Some good choices for the site you describe include Acer circinatum (vine maple), Acer griseum (paperbark maple), Acer palmatum (Japanese maple), Cercidium (Palo Verde), Cercia (redbud), Chionanthus (fringe tree), Erythrina (coral tree), Albizia julibrissin (silk tree), Laburnum (goldenchain), Sophora japoica (pagoda tree) or Acacia stenophylla (shoestring acacia), Camphor, Ornamental Pear, or Citrus. Only the last three are evergreen. Most grow less than 20' at maturity, but all can be pruned to control size and shape.
