| I bought a pink elf hydrangea buy mistake and I was wondering if I put it in a pot do I bring it in for the winter? do I have to cut it back and let it go dormant or just keep it as a house plant and put it outside in the spring? |
| If you want to keep it as a container plant you can store it for the winter in a cool location such as an unheated (attached) garage. The temperature should be above freezing but still cold. Darkness is okay, you want it to rest for the winter. Water barely enough to keep the soil from going bone dry. Bring it indoors in very late fall (it can be frosted and quite cold but the soil/roots should not freeze) and take it back outside again in mid spring to wake up naturally with the season. Take care to protect it from oscillating spring temperatures and frosts once it has started to bud or leaf out. Do not cut it back in fall or spring as this will prevent it from flowering next summer. Good luck with your Pink Elf! |
