I have a indoor small leaf ivy plant (Hedera Helix) which grew for a year but now it doesnt seem to be growing. I am giving it regular water and fertilizer but it just seems to be sleeping. Pls advise I bought miracle grow potting mix and potted some indoor plants like pothos etc. I noticed that there are small tiny white insects roaming in the potting mix and I also notice small black insects that fly when I touch the leaves etc. pls advise how to ged rid off them. |
Since your ivy grew well for a year I suspect it may need repotting into a larger container with refreshed soil mix. If the roots are crowded the plant will slow its growth, and if the soil mix had slow release fertilizer in it then that is probably leached away or exhausted by now as well. The small insects are probably fungus gnats. These can be controlled with a soil drench such as Gnatrol or insecticidal soap used per the label instructions, but they usually appear when plants are overwatered or watered so often that the soil surface is constantly wet. So, you can simply prevent them from reproducing by placing a layer of coarse sand or gravel on top of the soil. This will drain quickly and dry out quickly, they will stop breeding and disappear in several weeks. You might also check that you are not overwatering your plants. I hope this helps. |
