i would love-love-love to have a michelia alba, im afraid however, my zone (8)is not say-tropical enough- they seem very hard to take care of. I dont want to kill it-yet i cant find another plant as intoxicating to where i dont have to walk right up to it in order to smell it- any advice would be nice. erica

Erica,

You are correct that it is not hardy enough for your area. It gets too large for a container too. As a possible consoling second option, two other fragrant plants to consider are gardenia and white butterfly ginger.
