My question is that do hummingbirds benefit the plant or harm the plant.

Hummingbirds sip the nectar from flowers and in the process transfer pollen, which is good for the plant. In fact, both birds and flying insects have symbiotic relationships with flowers - something you'll want to encourage in your garden!
