I have recently moved to Las Vegas from Washington state and miss my hosta garden. I know that hostas like cool shady areas and I am not sure if I can even get one to grow here, but I was wondering if it would even be worth tyring if they needed a dormant period in order to do well. Thanks

I'm sorry but hostas aren't adapted for Vegas growing conditions. However, there are many fabulous plants that will grow. I suggest you visit the Gardens at the Springs Preserve, a very nice demonstration garden. Although the middle of summer isn't perhaps the best time to visit, it's a great resource for information on gardening and landscaping. www.springspreserve.org. Good luck with your new gardening experiences!
