I am wanting to start some cucumbers and tomatoes from seeds and then transplant them to my garden and would like to know about when is the right time to start. I would be starting the seeds in my basement. My zone number is six and the typical frost free date, from what I have been told, is May 10th.

Generally, cucumber seeds should be sown indoors 3-4 weeks before the last average frost date for your area. The latest frost date for your area is 5/31 and this is in Vanceburg. The average for KY is around 5/15 so I would use that. Tomato seed should be sown indoors between 6-8 wks. before the last frost date. Seed packets almost always have specific cultural information. Be sure your basement has the basic requirements for seed starting (not too cold, and, especially a good light source). If youneed more information on seed starting please feel free to post another question via the website.
