Could you recommend some shrubs to 6 feet or so, that can tolerate a few hours of morning sun and then nearly full shade the remainder of the day for the Houston area, zone 9. I need a speciman plant on a blank brick wall.
Thank you for any help that you can give me. April

April,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. We are transitioning to a new Q&A system and your question was unfortunately lost in the transition. I have discovered it now and hope this reply is not too late to be of help.

Deep shade will mean less density for most any shrub, even one tolerant of the shade. I would suggest the following possibilities for your area:
Camellia
Aucuba
Japanese Aralia (Fatsia japonica)
and possibly Banana shrub (Michelia figo) if the shade is fairly bright.

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
