Are there any tricks to keeping the trunk/base of my mexican fan palm from getting to large? Also is there anything I can do, other than fertilizing the palm , to help promote height growth? It has been in the ground about 2 1/2 years and looks very healthy.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

Palm trunks get wider very slowly over time and there is nothing you can do to prevent this. Height is achieved slowly as new leaves are formed. Good vigor is promoted by watering and fertilizing and will help increase growth rate somewhat but it will still be quite slow.
