| Can you tell if there is a flowering and climbing plant that you would recommend for a fence? I thought of a trumpet vine, but they tend to die back and not look that nice in the winter, plus once the seeds fall they tend to become something of a nuisance in that they begin to sprout up everywhere. I want something that flowers and attracts hummingbirds but will not become a problem. We have a fenced in yard and I am not sure what to use to achieve this look. We live in zone 6 and any help you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks! Ashley Minton |
| Three really popular choices for covering fences include evergreen Clematis, evergreen Lonicera (Honeysuckle) or Parthenocissus (Virginia Creeper). These plants may need some initial support for climbing, but will soon cover the area with lush growth and seasonal flowers. Trumpet vine is a natural for attracting hummingbirds, but it sounds as though you've already eliminated it. Perhaps you'll reconsider? Best wishes with your new vine! |
