I recently bought several Giant Bird OF Paradise, Strelitzia nicolai. On the ticket it says it gets 25' tall. Is this correct? Will it grow and survive the winter in Tennessee, zone 9?

It's true, Giant Bird of Paradise can grow to 25' tall and wide! It is listed hardy in zone 9A (Damaged at 28?F) so if you have a protected spot, or if your garden rarely freezes, it will be a perennial. If you receive freezing temperatures in your garden, you'll need to treat it as an annual - in which case it won't grow quite so large!
