Charlene,

Hydrangeas need bright shade for their leaves to produce the carbohydrates needed for bloom production. They bloom on year old wood so pruning in late winter or spring will remove potential blooming wood. Finally fertilize the plants periodically with a product for acid loving plants following the label instructions.
