The February issue of your magazine recommends certain fruit trees for certain zones. I live on Mulholland Drive above the San Fernando Valley. What zone am I in?

Broadly speaking, you're in USDA zone 10. To be a little more specific, Sunset Western Garden Book places you in zone 23. Your zone puts you in the unfortunate position of not having the winter chill requirements to grow most apples, pears, and peaches. You can easily grow other fruits, though, like figs, apricots and plums.
