I need a screening plant to screen above a six foot fence to about twelve feet total. The area gets afternoon sun.

Yew might be a consideration, but it's rather slow in reaching its mature height. Perhaps a better selection is Thuja (arborvitae). These plants are columnar in growth habit and are popular plants for tall, narrow hedges. They don't require regular pruning and will thrive in well-drained soil in afternoon sunshine.
