| May Willow had not kept its dapple to the leaves. I planted it about mid June and it went under some die back from heat but rebounded very fast. I removed the dead foliage and it looks very good and is growing, could the be our clay soil in a new subdivison. I amended the soil? |
| The soil would not change the coloring and clay soil should be fine as long as it is not terribly dried out. Keeping the soil evenly moist is important with this plant while it becomes established and also during any dry spells thereafter. It is a willow and appreciates damp soil although it will grow in average garden conditions as well. In my experience the dappled coloring is most obvious on new foliage in the early part of the season and then naturally fades as the season progresses. So I think the color change (apart from the browning) is fairly normal -- but you should still be seeing mostly light green, some whiter leaves, and a hint of pink. If you are still concerned about it, you might want to check back with your retailer. |
