The Q&A Archives: Compost or Bark

Answer: Both bark chips and compost will help aerate the soil, but I'd incorporate compost into the planting beds. As it breaks down it will provide nutrients to the soil. Bark breaks down, too, but takes much longer to do so. Compost is easier to incorporate evenly and nicer to work with when you're digging the beds and planting. Best wishes with your new planting beds!
