I have two beautiful butterfly bushes that have grown too large this summer and are drooping onto many of my flowering plants. Can I cut any of these branches now, or do I need to wait until early spring? Also the heaviness is pulling at the roots.

Butterfly bushes are traditionally pruned in early spring, but if your butterfly bushes have finished blooming, you can cut them back to make room for your other perennials. Next spring you can drastically reduce the size of these shrubs and they won't crowd your other plants out later next summer.
