| I have potted potato vines together with million bells, bacopa and impatients, also dwarf citrus trees with the same combination in a more sunny location. How often do they need to be watered? I am experiencing a fair amount of losses and dried out looking plants, although they are being watered almost daily. |
| Overwatering can cause as much stress to your plants as underwatering. The amount of water your plants require really depends upon the soil type, exposure to sunshine, weather, and plant preferences. All should do well with a good grade of potting soil; one that drains quickly, yet holds just enough moisture to keep the plant roots happy. Water deeply once or twice a week (depending upon weather) and when you do water, be sure to apply slowly so it has a chance to trickle down and wet the entire root mass. Wait until the top inch of soil is dry and then water deeply again. Since the pots are above ground, direct sunshine can over heat the roots; try grouping the pots together to provide some protection from direct sunshine, or place the pots behind a decorative stone, bench, etc. to keep sunshine from hitting them directly. I'm sure once you put your plants on a weekly watering schedule, they'll perk right up. Best wishes with your plants! |
