I have two planters at my front door and would like to have an evergreen shrub with some height. I like the privet topiaries you have, but was told that since they are fast growers, they tend to outgrow the planters too soon. How long do these topiaries last in planters ?? And what are my other choices ? Please help. |
There are many dwarf evergreen shrubs to choose from. Most important is how much sunlight they will receive, and remember that they may need frequent watering depending on the size and type of planter and the amount of sun they receive. True dwarf plants are naturally slow-growing and will last longer in the planter than larger plants that need to be pruned heavily to keep them in bounds. Here are a few ideas: DWARF HEAVENLY BAMBOO Nandina domestica 'Compacta' PRELUDE PIERIS Pieris japonica 'Prelude' STOKE'S DWARF YAUPON HOLLY Ilex vomitoria 'Stoke's Dwarf' (Male) DWARF BURFORD HOLLY Ilex cornuta 'Dwarf Burford' LITTLE GEM NORWAY SPRUCE Picea abies 'Little Gem' I hope this helps. |
