| I have a large pot of impatiens on my sunny front step. I need to know why I am being bombarded with black carpenter ants and hornets on the plant? They are not after the flower. So what are they doing and how do I get rid of them without killing my flowers? |
| Based on your description I would wonder if the hornets or bees may have nested in the soil in the container, same with the ants. Since these are right next to your walkway and house, you probably want to control them. If you are allergic to bee stings I would strongly suggest you call a professional pest control company. You might be able to control the bees by putting carbaryl (Sevin) in their tunnel or hole after dark when they are calm. Boric acid powder might control the ants. I would also suggest you check with your county extension for their suggestions, they will have the most up to date recommendations for what can be used in Ohio and how/when is best to apply it. |
