The Q&A Archives: Shade

Question: Can climbing roses grow in a shaded area?

Answer: Roses including climbing roses need full sun to grow and bloom well. Full sun means full direct sun all day long (preferable) or for a minimum of six hours a day including the hour of noon. A rose may survive in a shadier area but normally it won't bloom much at all so it is a disappointment there.
