What is the difference between the oriental type and regular cucumbers? Why would I choose one over the other?

It's totally a matter of personal taste. These cucumbers "look" a bit different, which makes them a good conversation piece. As the description says, they take a bit longer to ripen than the others; are long and skinny; have a mild flavor and are quite crisp. A good salad cuke.

They are climbers. A fence does very nicely if you have one available for them. It is quite a vigorous, healthy vine with strong tendrils.

One last attribute is that they are usually listed with the "burpless" cultivars, which might make them even more attractive! Supposedly, they are completely digestible.
