| Sandy, That plant should not die back after blooming. Something else must have damaged or stressed the plant, perhaps soggy wet conditions. Anyway, if it is putting out new growth that is a great sign. If you are sure that parts are really dead you can cut it back to make it more attractive. The new growth can reestablish a nice plant.
