| We are thinking of using Carpenteria californica for a planting plan in Pasadena, CA. We have grown it here in Santa Barbara, CA, and have experienced problems with black tips on the leaves. Any idea as to the reasons for this, and do you recommend using it in Pasadena? We noticed it tolerates sun and shade. What do you recommend for the best health of the plant? |
| There are no particular problems associated with Carpenteria californica so the black tips were probably caused by cultural conditions. In general, Carpenteria grows best in light shade with moderate applications of water; prefers a slightly acidic soil, and likes good drainage. Carpenteria is native to the Sierra Foothills and will adapt to growing at lower elevations. Aside from providing afternoon shade, slightly acidic soil, and watering regularly during the growing season, Carpenteria requires no special care. Enjoy! |
