| I purchased my first tree yesterday - a Monrovia Japanese Maple tree. How do I stake it out so that it grows straight until it is sturdy enough to stand on its own? :-) |
| Vicki, Use two iron fence stakes driven into the ground about two feet out from the trunk on opposite sides of the tree. Use a soft wire tied to the stake about waist to shoulder high and then put the other end through a soft section of hose to go around the tree's trunk so as not to cut into the trunk. Don't make the wires tight; leave a little slack for the wind to move the trunk. This will prevent damage and help the trunk to strengthen. In a few months you should be able to remove the wires. Don't leave them too long or they can begin to damage the trunk as it grows. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
