The Q&A Archives: mimosa tree family

Question: Here in the south we have the mimosa tree. But also there is a tree that looks like the mimosa tree, but it puts out a cluster of orange flowers that looks somewhat like a snapdragon and clustered like a small bunch of grapes. What are they called and do you take care of it?

Answer: I think the tree you saw is an Acacia, not a mimosa. It has an umbrella shape and feathery foliage, just like mimosa, but unlike mimosa, acacia produces deep golden sweetly perfumed flowers in dense clusters.
