I live in Zone 4. I have an Elephant Ear growing in a pot. For the winter months do I cut it back? Do I keep it in the soil in an unheated garage or in a heated basement? Your help would be greatly appreciated. |
Your plant will go into dormancy during the winter months so you'll want a cool but above freezing spot to keep the tuber so you can replant it next spring. Wait until frost kills the foliage, the cut the dead foliage off, unpot the tuber, brush excess soil off, and place it in sawdust or dry peat moss so you can store it in a cool place. Next spring, repot the tuber in fresh potting soil and it will produce brand new foliage. Best wishes with your Elephant's Ear! |
