| I am having my home landscaped, and live in a subdivision that does not allow fruit-bearing trees. My landscaper tells me that all trees are fruit-bearing, but the size of the fruit varies. Can you tell me if the following two trees would qualify as fruit-bearing in a way that a neighborhood association might have concerns about? Flowering Cherry (Kwanzaan Pink) and a Flowering Crab (Sargent Tina) My landscaper calls them ornamental trees and says the fruit is very small. |
| Your landscaper is right - both flowering cherry and flowering crabapple are considered ornamental because they do not reliably set fruit. However, sometimes the trees just can't help themselves and begin to form fruit. The fruit never really matures and it never gets very big, so technically they are considered ornamental rather than fruit bearing trees. Hope this clarifies things for you. |
