Which trees to choose? - Knowledgebase Question

We are about to landscape and looking at several varieties of trees. We like Fall color and want a tree whose roots will not be destructive to concrete and asphalt. Needless to say we want trees that do not have

I think the most trouble-free of those you've mentioned are the Bradford Pear and the Liquidambar. The foliage on the non-producing tree are exactly the same (non-productive is male; seed producers are female). Each of these varieties produces brilliant fall color; their foliage is different in appearance which will provide some additional interest, and both have attractive canopy shapes.
