How can I best keep my silver mound from growing so large? Can they be divided at a certain point in a season, should I trim them while they are still small? |
This plant (Artemisia schmidtiana Silver Mound) matures to about a 12 to 18 inch high and wide mound. It can be sheared in early summer and again in midsummer to try to keep it more compact and prevent it splitting open and splaying out flat, but that will not really keep it small. You can divide it and replant each spring to try to control the size somewhat. Make sure you are not overfertilizing (usually needs none at all) if it is growing tall and leggy; it also needs full sun all day long to stay its most compact. I hope this helps. |
