Gardeana bush - Knowledgebase Question

Hi. I have 4 Gardeana bushes. Last year they started to get a kind of black powder on the botom?? They havent died. But how do I get ridd of it? Or should I get rid of them? Mary,

Mary,

That is most likely sooty mold which grows on the sugary exudates from scale, mealybugs, whiteflies or aphids. If you can identify the pest then a proper remedy can be prescribed. Otherwise you might try a neem oil product. Thorough coverage is critical and a few repeat applications a couple of weeks apart will be needed to get better control.
