The Q&A Archives: Mexican Fan Palm

Question: How do you plant the Mexican Fan Palm? We just bought three of them.

Answer: Kyle,

Set them in a well drained soil so the top of the container's soil is even with the soil surface, that is, plant them at the same depth they were growing...not any deeper. Firm soil in around them base and water them in well. Keep the so moist without keeping it soggy wet. The tree will take some time to establish but should start to produce some new growth next summer.

Your zone is one zone north of that palm's hardiness range so some type of winter protection will be needed when temperatures drop to the mid teens or below.
