After flowering the flowers turn black and stay there. About August the leaves start to turn color as if it were fall and they drop off. New ones do appear. Is this normal? If so this is an ugly tree except when it blooms in the spring. |
What you describe is not normal for a Golden Chain tree (Laburnum). I think your tree is showing symptoms of stress. This tree is best grown in a spot protected from full day sun and with very well-drained alkaline soil with a high level of organic matter. When it is not receiving the correct exposure to sun or the watering requirements are not met, it can develop leaf spot, root rot, or insect problems. |
