The Q&A Archives: digging up gladiolas

Question: I live in the northeast, and I have been told I should dig up my glads this fall and replant in spring. Do i have to take them up in fall or will they winter over ok???

Answer: Your zip code places you in zone 5A, the coldest part of zone 5. In your area you really do have to dig them each fall. They will not survive the winter outside in the ground.

If you do not want to dig them, you could replace them each year. Many people find that the easier approach and enjoy the opportunity to try different colors and so on.
