We recently purchased a pyracantha augustifolia monon. We also have a 6 month old Golden Retriever. Are the berries on this plant poisonous if he should eat any? You answer will help us decide where to plant it. Thank you..............Felicia

Pyracantha is closely related to apples. The fruits are not particularly poisonous although could cause, like apples, some gastric distress if eaten in quantity or when very unripe. The plant is also somewhat thorny and this might deter the puppy somewhat. If you have more immediate poisonous plant worries you might want to check with your veterinarian, too. Enjoy your puppy!
