There are many possible choices and your selection will be determined by a number of different factors. For example, the amount of shade and time of day it is shaded (four hours of afternoon sun would be considered more of a full sun location that part shade), the type of soil there, if it is extra wet or dry, if it is windy, if there are tree roots to contend with, the amount of space to be planted, your budget, the surrounding landscape, and your personal taste. I would suggest you work with your county extension and/or your professionally trained nursery staff to analyze the growing conditions where you want to plant the shrubs and determine which ones might do well there, then select the ones you like best from among those. Good luck with your planting!
