Besides catnip, what kind of houseplants can cats be allowed to chew on/eat, bite, etc? Are there some special grasses?

Burpee actually offers seed for "cat grass" (Avena sativa - pg. 71 of the spring catalog) and a Cat Garden kit (pg. 122), which includes pots, soil, instructions, and seed for both catnip and cat grass. Many other decorative plants can be toxic to both humans and household pets. To be on the safe side, I'd discourage your pets from playing with or chewing on any other type of indoor plant. If you have children and pets that insist on handling or chewing plants indoors, you'd be wise to place only edible herbs like parsley, chives, etc. within their reach.
