I have planted rhododendron hybrids this summer. I have no idea what to do with them in the winter. Do I prune them, cut branches, cover them?

If you purchased your rhododendrons at a local nursery (rather than mail order), they should be hardy enough to survive your winter weather without any special care. Rhodies develop flower buds over the summer months for the following spring's spectacular display. Don't prune them now or you'll prune off the flower buds. Wait until after your rhodies have finished flowering in the spring to do any pruning. Aside from watering regularly until fall rains take over, there's no special care required by your plants. Enjoy!
