| I'm back:-) Well I have the dwarf alberta spruce for 3 or 4 yrs now and it's browning and loosing foliage on one side. Reading on I think I'm overwatering. But I'm also reading it needs full sun...my house is on the shadey side of the street so it only gets morning and evening sun..is there an evergreen tree that can handle the shady side in a container? |
| If the browning coincides with repotting and the self watering pot, then it is possibly related to that. It might be mites, it might be a fungal infection, it might be root damage related to the repotting ... or it might be lack of light on that side of the plant if it is the side up against a wall for instance. I would still suggest consulting with your county extension, it is diffiuclt to diagnose this type of symptom long distance. It is also difficult to grow evergreens in containers year round since the roots are not very well insulated and tend to freeze and thaw -- and this is stressful, but you might try a yew in a very large container, they can be clipped to shape and kept small or tall and narrow as desired. Your local professional nursery staff may have other suggestions based on a more detailed understanding of the growing conditions where you want to keep it. Good luck! |
