A previous owner cut a few of the bottom branches off a 20 year old austrian pine in our backyard. Will these branches ever grow back? Other than a few browning areas, the tree seems healthy and is growing nicely at the top. |
Unfortunately, no, they will not grow back. These trees do not grow back on old wood. As pines grow taller they also shade themselves at the bottom and eventually elf prune -- and lose some lower branches. A mature pine will have a bare trunk going up a long ways with branches only at the top. |
