| Need something soft airy and flowing or weeping shrub to plant between open picket fence sections to create an appealing friendly appearance that dileniates property line. . . fence is 4'high with 10' spaces in between the 16'sections of fence. . . please advise. Thanks. |
| Spirea and Weigela come to mind as being easy to grow, large flowering shrubs that arch gracefully when left to reach their mature size and shape. Forsythia also has a nice flow when it has not been pruned into a "meatball". With this much space between the fence panels you can consider some of these and let them reach their full size. (Some cultivars of these shrubs are ultimately large enough that you might need only one shrub per gap.) Another option might be one of the smaller disease resistant crabapples such as "Molten Lava" which is only about ten feet tall with a wider spreading, weeping form and good fall color along with a gorgeous bloom display and of course fruit. Your local professional nursery staff should be able to help you evaluate the growing conditons where your fence line is and suggest what would grow well there -- possibly something else or additional plants -- then you can select from among those based on your personal taste.
