The Q&A Archives: Mildew Resistant Crape Myrtles

Question: I would like to buy two specimen crape myrtles, but need to know which ones are mildew resistant. I leave near the ocean.

Thank you.

Answer: Petite Snow is a white flowering dwarf crape myrtle with moderate resistance to powdery mildew; Hopi has white, turning to pink flowers and good resistance to mildew; Acoma is a semi-dwarf with excellent disease resistance. Be sure to plant in full sunshine with lots of room for good air circulation all around the plants and they will be less apt to be attacked by powdery mildew. Best wishes with your crape myrtles!
