What are the best options for Dense Evergreen deerproof Hedges? I'm in zone 9. Looking for 6-8' tall, 4' or less wide. Minimal to no flowering. Fast growing. Thanks, J.D. |
Laurel is always a good choice; they sometimes flower, but are not generally planted for their flower display. Deer usually avoid them. Escallonia is another flowering evergreen but is dense and produces an attractive hedge. Nandina (heavenly bamboo) is another shrub that's usually ignored by deer. Flowers are small; foliage changes in the fall so you'll have some visual interest. Or, boxwood. No flowers, deer usually not a problem; dense and evergreen. Hope one of these suggestions is just right for your landscape. |
