Could this be a crape myrtle -- it would be blooming now? Some have very lovely bark. Other white flowering trees with interesting bark would include Chionanthus, Halesia, Stewartia, and Styrax along with maybe the deciduous magnolias with silvery bark and interesting marks on it. It is a little diffcult to guess without knowing a little more about it. You might work with your local professional nurseryman and/or county extension (or a good reference book) to try to identify the tree using a photo or two. I hope this helps!
