I have heard that periwinkle should be mowed down. Is that right? Or should a weed wacker be used to trim it down? Or should it be left alone? |
Vinca minor is a low maintenance ground cover. Many gardeners leave it alone for years, taking care only to remove heavy layers of fallen leaves in the fall. If your planting seems too overgrown however you can rejuvenate it by mowing it off short. I would do this in late winter before it begins to grow for the season. This way you will not damage the new growth and the new growth will quickly conceal the cut tips. You can use a lawnmower or a weed whacker or if you have a small area you can trim it by hand, whichever you prefer. |
